Semi-permanent makeup vs pregnancy
The number of pregnant women who consider permanent makeup is shocking. The procedure makes many of you think of some simple cosmetic treatments. However, no matter the used technique, semi-permanent makeup is invasive. That is why we would like to answer your questions and clear up all doubts concerning permanent makeup in pregnancy – for your well-being as well as the health of your baby.
Note!
Semi-permanent makeup is ALWAYS a form of shallow tattoo; during the procedure pigment is introduced into the skin with a needle or blade. The treatment tends to be painful and is done under local anesthetic (in form of creams or ointments).
Semi-permanent makeup while pregnant
Everybody knows that pregnant women should spend this special time actively, focusing on health benefits. It’s common knowledge that bad eating habits, diseases, stress, medication, chemicals, cigarettes, alcohol and unhealthy lifestyle are good neither for the mother nor for the baby. That’s why pregnant women try to head off all of these hazards. An obvious conclusion comes along: having permanent makeup done during pregnancy IS NOT SAFE. Here’s why:
1. Semi-permanent makeup during pregnancy: local anesthesia
As you know by now, permanent makeup is done under local anesthetic so some part of it penetrates the body.
Of course all products are tested and approved for sale but let’s remember that the body might react to them differently. During pregnancy, even the smallest amount of anesthetic might have a bad impact on the fetal development. Local anesthetic is the first and foremost reason why semi-permanent makeup shouldn’t be done while pregnant.
2. Semi-permanent makeup during pregnancy: pigments
The cosmetic market is flooded by different types of pigments for permanent makeup but it’s a pity that plenty of them may trigger adverse reactions. The most common ones include allergic reactions and post-procedure complications in form of wounds that are hard to heal. Even pigments labeled the safest or hypoallergenic shouldn’t be used on pregnant woman’s skin.
Note!
There are no tests that would prove these pigments are safe for the fetus.
3. Semi-permanent makeup during pregnancy: antiviral medication
After having permanent lip makeup done, you always need to take antiviral medication which is prescribed by a doctor. This way you can protect lips from cold sore. On the other hand, this type of medication isn’t safe for the fetus.
4. Semi-permanent makeup during pregnancy: infections
Semi-permanent makeup requires invasive procedure – the continuity of the skin is disturbed. If you don’t feel well during pregnancy and your body is exposed to infections, then each and every form of interference can be a trigger for a disease. That is why the best you can do is forget all treatments that can be bad for you and your baby.
